Rhinoplasty

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as a "nose job", is a surgical procedure to correct or change the shape and size of the nose. The aim of rhinoplasty is to correct aesthetic or functional problems in people who are not satisfied with the appearance of their nose or who experience breathing problems. During the rhinoplasty procedure, the nose bone, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped and the nasal passages may be widened, resulting in a healthier breathing and an improved appearance.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours. During the operation, the nose bones and cartilage may be reshaped or trimmed and the nostrils may be narrowed or widened.

There are two different techniques that can be used for rhinoplasty: closed and open. In closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made within the nose, resulting in less visible scarring. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made between the nostrils to provide a wider view of the nasal structures.

Recovery time can vary depending on personal factors, surgical techniques, and the extent of the surgery, but usually takes several weeks. After the operation, the patient may experience side effects such as swelling, bruising, and pain, but can return to normal activities within a few days. It is important to have a detailed consultation before the operation to evaluate whether it is suitable for your health and personal needs.

Who Can Get Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can be performed on anyone whose health condition is suitable for the operation, but it is not only for cosmetic purposes. Sometimes it can also be done to correct breathing problems. Therefore, people who are considering rhinoplasty should have a detailed consultation to determine whether the operation is suitable for them. Additionally, some people may need to refrain from rhinoplasty, such as those with a high risk of bleeding or a serious heart condition. In such cases, risks must be evaluated for the rhinoplasty operation.

What is the recovery process like after Rhinoplasty?

The recovery process after rhinoplasty (nose job) can vary from person to person, but generally takes a few weeks. In the first few days after the operation, there may be swelling and bruising around the nose. Additionally, there may be a splint or bandage inside the nose that needs to be carried. It is best to rest at home for the first few days, following your doctor's recommendations. After a few days, the nose may only be washed slowly and carefully. During the first week, physical activities should be limited and heavy exercises should be avoided.
